An Unforgettable Trip to Chengdu
Hi everyone! My name is Lily and I'm 10 years old. I just went on the most amazing trip ever to Chengdu with my mom and dad during summer vacation. I'm so excited to tell you all about it!
We flew from Beijing to Chengdu, which is the capital city of Sichuan Province way out west in China. The plane ride took almost 3 hours. I had a window seat and loved looking out at the clouds and tiny houses and roads down below. It was my first time being so high up!
When we got to Chengdu, the first thing I noticed was how hot and humid it was compared to Beijing. Chengdu has a subtropical climate which means it's warm and rainy a lot of the time. But that didn't bother me one bit because I was just so thrilled to be there!
Our hotel was right in downtown Chengdu near this huge plaza with beautiful golden statues and fountains spraying water high into the air. Our room had a balcony and you could see the whole city from up there. The skyline was so colorful at night with all the bright lights and skyscrapers.
The first place we visited was Chengdu Research Base of Giant Panda Breeding, which is a famous panda reserve and research center. I've always loved pandas - they're just the cutest, derpiest animals ever! At the reserve, we got to see dozens of pandas lounging around, eating bamboo, and playing. The baby pandas were especially adorable, all tiny and fuzzy and clumsy. We even saw a newborn panda that was only a few weeks old! The zookeepers told us all about how they take care of the pandas and try to boost the wild population. It was amazing learning so much about my favorite animal.
Next up was Dujiangyan Irrigation System, which is an incredible ancient engineering project from the 200s BC! It's basically a huge dam and series of channels that were built to control flooding and provide irrigation. The main part is this gigantic mountain carved wit
h intricate channels, waterfalls, and passageways for the river. It's hard to believe people way back then could design and construct something so enormous and elaborate without modern tools and machinery! Our guide explained all the brilliant architectural details. I felt like I was studying an ancient wonder of the world.
One of the highlights was definitely getting to experience the amazing Sichuan cuisine! Chengdu is famous for its delicious and spicy dishes like hot pot, dandan noodles, kungpao chicken, mapo tofu, and more. Every meal we had was so flavorful and a total explosion of tastes in my mouth - numbing spice, sour, sweet, salty, savory. My favorites were the hot pot, where you cook meats and veggies right at your table in a bubbling pot of spicy broth, and the delicate steamed dumplings stuffed with complex fillings. My parents struggled a bit with how spicy everything was, but I loved it!
We also got to see some cultural shows and performances around the city. One night we went to an amazing Sichuan opera where the performers did incredible acrobatics and dancing in colorful costumes with face paint. Another evening we saw this mesmerizing "fa
ce changing" show where the performers wore elaborate masks and magically swapped them out in a split second using bright flashes and sleight of hand tricks. It was mind-blowing!
On our last day, we visited some of Chengdu's most iconic historical sites and landmarks. The Wuhou Memorial Temple was breathtaking with its grand halls, ornate architecture, and beautiful gardens. And walking through the narrow alleyways of the old Kuanzhai Xiangzi neighborhood felt like stepping back in time - the streets were lined with traditional courtyard homes, tea houses, artisan shops, and locals playing mahjong. You could really sense Chengdu's rich heritage and history.
After a week of sight-seeing, feasting, and soaking in the vibrant culture, it was sadly time to head back home to Beijing. I'll never forget the incredible experiences and sights of Chengdu. From the adorable pandas to the mind-blowing ancient marvels to the delectable spicy cuisine, every moment was magical. I'm already dreaming about my next visit! Chengdu, I'll be back for you!

An Unforgettable Journey to Chengdu
Wow, what an amazing adventure I had when my family went to Chengdu last summer! I was so excited because I had never been to that part of China before. The plane ride seemed to take forever, but I didn't mind because I was bouncing in my seat imagining all the fun we would have.
When we finally landed and made it to our hotel, I could hardly contain my energy. The hotel was huge, with the most incredible lobby I had ever seen. There were these massive wooden columns that looked like giant trees holding up the ceiling. And the floors were made of shiny marble that felt cool under my bare feet. Our room was on one of the top floors and had a balcony where you could see the whole city stretching out below us. I wanted to run and jump on the huge bed, but Mom made me settle down first.
