Today I want to tell you all about the big English test that university students had to take last year in my home province of Henan. It was a very important test called the "Henan English Test for Students Upgrading from Junior College to University." That's a really long name, so I'll just call it the Upgrade Test.
The Upgrade Test happens every year and it's super important for students who go to junior college for two years and then want to get their four-year university degree. This tested how well they could understand spoken English.
The reading section gave them different passages to read, like news articles, stories, and academic writings. The 2022 Henan University Entrance Exam English Essay? That was a really hard one! I'm just a little kid in elementary school, but my older brother took that exam so I know a little bit about it. He studied sooooo hard for months getting ready. Every night after dinner he would lock himself in his room and not come out until bedtime. My parents kept telling him not to stress out too much, but he said this exam was super important for getting into a good university.
Anyway, from what I could tell, the essay part was really, really tough. It wasn't just writing a few sentences about your favorite food or tv show or whatever. It was a huge essay where you had to do lots of different things to show you could really use English well. Let me try to explain it the best I can!
