I’m writing to express some of my opinions towards our school’s English newspaper.
In my point of view, among health, entertainment and culture, I would choose “entertainment” to be the one to be eliminated. Although it’s necessary for students to get some relaxation, I’m worried that the main news the entertainment column offers will eventually turn into celebrity gossip, which is neither helpful to the growth of students nor to the development of our school. We are already living in a world th
at is crammed with useless information, and there’s no need to add some more. The main focus of the newspaper is supposed to be placed on the students --- not Brad Pitt’s new movie.
As for the column to be added, I highly recommend the “career planning”. I know that right now a large number of students still have absolutely no idea about what they truly want to become in the future, so it’s quite urgent and necessary to give students basic understanding of what different kinds of jobs are like and what kind of qualities are required for different jobs. This may help students gain a better understanding of their strengths and weakness and this figure out their goals. To me, it’s much more meaningful than “fashion” or “readers’ feedback”.

Today, I visited a primary school and had the chance to watch two different painting classes, in which a
girl called Amy caught my eye. Her different facial expressions and attitudes in the two classes gave me some food for thought.
In one class, Amy was allowed to paint a large picture with her feet. She dipped some paint with her feet and drew the picture according to her own thought with great passion. I can tell it from the broad and sunny smiles on her face. In the next class, Amy was supposed to sit in front of the desk with a brush in hand and drew some simple and regular scenery. However, she was holding the brush so tightly that she could hardly draw it fluently. She looked more nervous than excited.
From my perspective, the first painting class is more successful. To a small child like Amy, gaining fun in painting is more important. By painting in the first way, Amy was free from what is so called painting requests. She can draw whatever she likes and stretches her wings of imagination. By comparison, in the second class, she was nervous to draw the scenery, which was apparently not her wish. What’s more, a happy childhood will grant child more than teaching them techniques in drawing.
In a nutshell, Amy told me the importance of protecting children’s interest and imagination. Just as the saying goes, interest is the best teacher. With their wings of interest and imagination stretched, they are bound to have fun and hold great passion for painting or anything else they like, thus making their lives more colourful and fruitful.

came that the
International Children Funds Association intended to aid middle school students financially in launching programs designed to help children in poor areas. And I am writing to you to apply for one, hoping that the fund as much as 2000 yuan can realize my wish to help these children.
As a normal student of MingQi Middle School, I, Li Ming, Has been long cherishing a dream that every single child in poverty can have free access to knowledge, thus devoting themselves to society to make it more harmonious in turn.
Consequently, if my application can be luckily agreed to, I will spare no efforts to build a library for those children as my program.
To be more specific, the fund will be divided into three parts. First of all, 800 yuan of it will be spent on buying books which may be mainly second-hand, in order to ensure the quantity. Also, another 400 yuan will be intended to carry out advertisements that call on the people with a sense of responsibility in society to donate textbooks and so forth. What’s more, the remaining 800 yuan, according to my design, shall be given to those children, entitling them the right to buy their favorite books that are beyond what is mentioned above.

As is demonstrated from the picture, all the students are eager to answer the question asked by their teacher with their faces lighting up. It seems that there is
just another game instead of a serious academic discussion. We fail to find any shy
or embarrassed expression on these kids’ faces.
It reminds me of the similar phenomena when I was in junior high school. I was
so fortunate that I encountered a very nice English teacher who always encouraged us to propose new ideas by using enlightening words, which led to the active learning atmosphere.
Therefore, I strongly prefer the practice because it cannot only benefit the students who can enjoy their study finding it not really boring as what they have thought, but the teachers too as it will definitely help his or her teaching conduct more smoothly.

As we all can see, the lovely students in the picture are so active that they all put their hands high, hoping to express their own opinions. It is obvious that the atmosphere is relaxing and everyone enjoys it. That’s great, isn’t it?
