Progress Plan
The objectives for the students and teachers are:
Stage 1 (two semesters)
to conduct e-mail exchange for the core group of students and for the others (if the need be) to conduct exchange of ICT materials about the partner countries
to colla borate on preparing materials for ‘English lesson –total immersion’
15 May 2008: to conduct the ‘English lesson –total immersion’ (2F) (I have to do it on Thursday to suit my partner, Beata, others can do on the same day (it could be funny to read on-line what is going on over there) or in sort of cascade: Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday (for Poland ) and Friday for all schools – as a final round-up (?)
16 May 2008: to conduct the action ‘English Only – total i mmersion’ with the leitmotif of ‘Yellow Submarine’ (1B) [it is describe d later on, but as it is a new thing, I’ll outline it here: this would sum up the e-mail exchange of all the students (those directly involved and those who used the e-mail exchange service, if it works, of course) as they could comment on their impressions via the school rad
io broadcasting system (it functions in my school for broadcasting urgent messages and for playing music during the afternoon breaks). At the same time we could hold a competition: ‘English only’ – the school which manages to make their students not use the native language during the breaks on this day, is the winner ] Stage 2 (one semester)
to produce short (15 minutes?, longer?) lessons of the basic phrases (Good morning/ Thank you/ You are welcome/ Excuse me etc) of the students’ native language for the other partners, with English being the medium of communication. Cultural information welcome.
to invite other partners and finally to produce a whole bank of bilingual lessons of European languages and dialects (or that is just too much and boring?)
‘pearl in the crown’ - to involve English-speaking partners to prepare mini-lessons presenting various accents (Scottish, Irish etc.) or introducing elements of Celtic (Welsh, Irish, Scottish, Manx?) Timetables should be established: when and who can communicate in the lesson – hopefully, there are some overlaps or when students and teachers can possibly stay longer at school (for one or two chats etc)!
Holidays and free days in the whole school year – should be collected.

∙Ss: to write first messages: from Portugal to Poland, etc.
∙Ss: to prepare their profiles in the PowerPoint
∙Teachers: to prepare the language lesson survey ‘An ideal language lesson – what should it be like?’: establish the areas that should be considered (the survey could be on the amount of pair work, group work, speaking, writing, reading, listening, on the tempo, the use of the media and of the computer in the lesson etc? – if not the amount, so how to conduct the given area, ) 5 November – 11 November [one week]
∙Teachers: to generate passwords for their students so that they can use the TwinSpace
∙Ss: to place their profiles in the TwinSpace – further contacts are generated
∙Teachers: to try to establish the set of features of a good/ideal language lessons
o First at one’s school: to work in the language group with colleagues: to do survey, to draw conclusions from the results, to have a discussion (welcome)
o Then with eTwinning partners: to exchange data and produce the final evaluation – we can use TwinSpace Forum and make one person responsible for preparing sort o f
resume (at the end of the project students produce their own evaluation, as well)

∙Ss: to start e-mail exchange service for the other students from the school (coordinator, preferably a student, has an e-mail address to which others send their profiles (Word) –
coordinator either sends back an address for correspondence or places the given address in
the database and … all wait: addresses are given out in the established order (to avoid the
problem of sidelining some partners, as sunny Algavre could be easily preferred to Poland or
Lithuania): in Poland, for example: Lithuania, Portugal, Spain, Lithuania, Portugal etc. (or
whatever) – the rule to stimulate the students’ involvement: students who have proved e-pal correspondence get their semestre marks by half higher

12 November – 21 December, 2007 [6 weeks]
∙Ss: to prepare PowerPoint presentations of their country’s [with the help of other teachers in the school]: [proposals only]
o music (Poland: from Chopin to Możdżer, Lao Che, Kapela ze wsi W arszawa)
o painting
o history (the millenium or the given period, in Poland: the Warsaw Uprising, for example)
o chosen landmark from their town or the capital of the country
o tourist attractions in the whole country
o Christmas
o Roman-Catholic sanctuaries (maybe with reference to their pagan origins – in Poland it’s common)
o Talented mates: singers, actors, sportsmen in my school
o languages spoken by students of my school (presentations by the best students of the given language + languages not taught at school)
∙Teachers: to organize the exchange of the materials in the virtual space – placed in the TwinSpace
∙OR: to organize the exchange in real time – during lessons: two exchanges in real time by Christmas () or one before Christmas, the other in January 2008
10 – 21 December, 2007 [two weeks]
∙Tea chers: to decide about the ‘English lesson’ character:
o addressed to an adult false beginner, Beata (the idea is to bombard Beata with English whenever p
ossible and thus achieve the ‘total immersion’ impression, at least) and
conducted during breaks as a set of ICT presentations, games, performances of songs,
interactive exercises, maybe prepared menu (or at least tea and biscuits – we have a
proved recipe!), maybe Elizabethan or Victorian costumes could be hired from the
National Theatre (though it will be very hot in May) + events should be (or not???)
recorded on the blog –the finale: watching ‘Yellow Submarine’ together (I hope the
British Council has got the film) or going to the cinema to watch some British production ∙Now I can envisage:
∙producing a video recording of boys singing the alphabet rap (this will
involve students not directly involved in the project), an audio or a
video recording of the Beatles’ ‘Yesterday’ (students on the project), a
video recording of a warm-up physical exercises with English
commands, to be sent to Beata first thing in the morning (students on
the project). If I have time, I will start with those three projects
before Christmas –just to whet the students’ appetites.

o conducted as a marathon (two or three hours: with the subtitle ‘English without yawning’ or‘Yawning kills English’ or whatever you like)
o any other ideas – it is up to you (now my mind is a complete blank)
∙plans for each partner’s lesson will be made individually, unless we
decide to do the same (then we may follow one pattern, but again we
don’t have to), but all the prepared materials will be available in the
TwinSpace and every partner will be able to use those they like in their
‘lesson’
∙I think I’ll stick to ‘Beata lesson’–I’ll need a plan for 90 minutes of
English (or maybe more, to be on the safe side)
2 January – 25 April, 2008 [eighteen weeks –in Poland we’ll have a two-week break for winter holidays, and one week for Easter]
∙Teachers: to submit the general idea of the lesson and outline individual progress plans () for the whole 18 weeks
∙Teachers with students-coordinators: to prepare a detailed plan of the ‘lesson’
∙Teachers and Ss: to continue e-mail exchange, organize chat in the lesson and prepare materials for the ‘English lesson –total immersion’
2 – 18 January, 2008
∙Maybe we could start the New Year with an intensive exchange on the British culture (?): students c
ommenting what impresses them most, what they would like to see (or have already seen), films they like etc.
28 April – 9 May (in Poland we’ll have a long May weeke nd in the meantime: four free days, I wouldn’t be surprised if it was similar in other partner countries)
∙Ss: to prepare audio recordings for 16 May: students commenting on eTwinning collaboration, new friendships, maybe playing the music they learned to appreciate, maybe crooning a melody discovered through the eTwinning project, etc. –or maybe 16 May can go live Earlier
students establish only who is after whom and prepare any additional materials (e.g. a
guitar to play sth.) and there it goes I ha ve to check if it is feasible…
∙Teachers: to make sure the school radio broadcasting team are ready and know what to do CAMPAIGN BEFORE THE DAY
5 May (Mon) - a week and half before: information in the school radio broadcasting system (RBS) (during lesson time): about ‘English Only’ Day and Competition
9 May (Fri) – a week before: information repeated  + ‘Yellow Submarine’ played -  in the RBS (during one break),
9 - 12 May–the core (1B) students visit each class and inform about ‘English Only’ Day – Total Immersion –leitmotif: Yellow Submarine: every participating school at the start of the day has 1000 points –‘sworn-in’ (, for example, in the presence of the headmaster) students-coordinators cruise the school corridors during the breaks and whenever they hear the native language, they must subtract one point
Or the school starts from 0 point and every time the coordinator hears English, the school scores one point? –But it’s to the advantage of bigger schools… - or maybe our schools are similar in size?

15 May – in the afternoon: students decorate the school with yellow gadgets (but what exactly?) 15 May, 2008 - Thursday
FOR THE CORE (2F) STUDENTS: to conduct the ‘English lesson –total immersion’ project for Beata and to record it in real time on the blog (maybe it is unnecessary?). Students should fill in Beata’s time before school: hour/ hour and a half? and then 90 minutes of the break time at school.
Final point of the day is: watching ‘Yellow Submarine’ together or going to the cinema for an English film.
16 May, 2008 - Friday
FOR THE WHOLE SCHOOL: the school RBS: Introduction + Yellow Submarine + presentations live or audio materials: impressions of students participating in the e-mail exchange [all the breaks take 90 minutes] + coordinators cruising the corridors and counting the points + maybe some contacts in real time with partner schools?
