G: Would you like some Matches, Sir?
M: No!
Scene 2
G: Oh, so cold. A light!
N: The little girl had no shoes. She was so cold and so hungry but she couldn’t go home. Today she didn’t sell any matches. Her father would beat her. She walked on and found a corner and sat down. She looked at her matches.
G: It’s so cold. Ah, the, the matches! Just one. It will make my hands warmer.
N: She took one match and struck it against the wall. She felt the warmth from that one tiny match. Suddenly, she saw a large stove in front of her.
G: This stove is so warm.
N: She put her hands closer to the stove. But at once the stove was gone. There was only the burnt match left.
Scene 3
G: It’s too cold. I will light another match. Maybe the stove will come again.
N: Again, the match sparkled in the night air. This time she saw some nice food.
G: A big goose! The smell is mouth-watering. I want to eat the delicious food.
N: But it all disappeared at once. There was nothing left but the burnt match. She felt very disappointed.
Scene 4
N: Without thinking, she took another match and lit it. This time she saw a horse carriage coming. She was so happy. She sat in it and went away quickly.
G: I, I will go to find my granny. She loved me very much.
诚惶诚恐的意思N: Granny died many years ago. She was the only person who was kind to the little match girl.
G: Granny, Granny, Granny!
N: Granny opened the door.
G: Granny!
N: Suddenly, the match went out and Granny disappeared.
Scene 5
N: The little match girl lit the rest of the matches. The grandmother took the little girl in her arms.
G: Granny, I miss you so much. I’m so sad without you. Don’t leave me.
