Research on the Effectiveness of “Curriculum Ideological and Political” Reform in Public English Class of Higher V ocational Colleges

Abstract: According to the actual investigation, it is found that the current English education in higher vocational colleges pays too much attention to the infiltration of western culture and lacks the combination of Chinese culture, which leads to the disadvantage of students in international multicultural communication. Curriculum ideological and political education is a new concept and idea in educational reform in recent years. This paper studies and discusses the curriculum ideological and political reform based on the public English classroom in higher vocational colleges, aiming at promoting the innovation of English classroom in higher vocational colleges and ensuring good teaching effect.

Public classroom is an important channel for students to carry out “course ideological and political education”. The development of ideological and political education activities can promote the unity and coordination of various courses and ideological and political education. Public English class in higher vocational colleges is an important part of humanities education in higher vocational colleges in China, and it is also one of the required courses for students in higher vocational colleges. Educators need to conform to the trend of “ideological and political education” and incorporate ideological and political education elements into teaching in a targeted way, so as to lay the foundation for the good development of personnel training in higher vocational colleges. At present, the teaching goal of public English in higher vocational colleges is usually limited to language teaching,

As a result, English teaching becomes a mere formality, which can not give full play to the characteristics of humanistic education. Therefore, integrating the ideological and political elements into the public English class in higher vocational colleges and promoting the value of ideological education are the key points in current English teaching in higher vocational colleges.
1. Basic Connotation of Curriculum Ideological and Political Education
Curriculum ideological and political education is a new educational concept derived from the development trend of the times. Curriculum thinking takes “cultivating people by virtue” as the fundamental orientation, and constructs a curriculum system of educating people by all staff, the whole process and the whole course. The ideological and political course has fundamentally strengthened the ideological and political function of the classroom, expanded the scope of ideological and political education, made ideological and political education highly integrated with other disciplines, brought into play the important value of moral education, and laid the foundation for building a scientific and efficient classroom system of higher vocational education in line with the development of the times [1]. The public English class in higher vocational colleges has a wide coverage and long class hours, whic
h plays a very important role in the ideological and political education of students.
2. Significance of “Curriculum Ideological and Political” Reform in Public English Class of Higher V ocational Colleges
(1) At present, there are serious ideological and political problems in higher vocational English education.
As an important carrier of cultural communication, to truly master a language requires not only learning the knowledge and usage of the language, but also understanding the cultural origin and thinking mode of the language. English class is the main way for Chinese students to understand and learn western culture. In the process of learning English, students will gradually come into contact with western ideas and concepts. For example, the beginning of a week in the west falls on Sunday in China, such as Christmas and Halloween in the west. Students are exposed to these cultural knowledge in order to broaden their horizons, but many students confuse their thoughts and are gradually infected by western liberalism and individualism, resulting in the concept of worshipping foreign things and fawning on foreign countries. For example, blindly worshiping the Marvel heroes in the West, but knowing little about the heroes in Chinese history, is excessively infected by the western personal heroism, which is not conducive to the cultivation

of collectivism and dedication advocated by our country.
(2) Cultural aphasia phenomenon
At present, English teaching in higher vocational colleges in China pays too much attention to the infiltration of western culture and neglects the emphasis of Chinese culture, which leads to a slow decline of many students’ sense of identity with their mother tongue culture. The phenomenon of cultural aphasia is mainly manifested in that many students can talk about western culture in Kan Kan, but they don’t know where to start when talking about Chinese culture. At present, English teaching in higher vocational colleges is well prepared for cross-cultural communication. The teaching materials cover a lot of western cultural knowledge, so that students can have a basic knowledge and understanding of western culture according to the teaching materials and teachers’ explanations [2]. However, when communicating with foreigners, students can’t introduce Chinese culture to foreigners well. This situation is not conducive to the spread of Chinese traditional culture, and students’ cultural self-confidence is reduced. In addition, English classroom teaching in higher vocational colleges focus
es on the introduction and popularization of English theoretical knowledge, and there are few opportunities for students’ oral English training. As a result, students are not good at telling stories or communicating in English.
3. The Basic Path of “Curriculum Ideological and Political” Reform in Public English Class of Higher V ocational Colleges
(1) Incorporate the ideological and political elements into the teaching curriculum, and pay attention to the coordination and promotion of Chinese and Western cultures.
English teachers in higher vocational colleges need to pay attention to the education of socialist core values. The reform of English curriculum in the new era requires promoting the integration of English language and culture. Therefore, English curriculum in the new era should not only introduce western culture, but also emphasize the dominant position of Chinese culture, improve students’ cultural identity and enhance their cultural self-confidence. In the process of learning western culture, students must take advantage of objective eyes and attitudes, extract the essence and discard the dross, and study selectively. At the same time, we should integrate the socialist core values with the high-quality parts of western culture, and pay attention to the coordination and promotion of Chinese and western c
ultures [3]. For example, in the process of teaching western festivals, it can be explained jointly with traditional festivals in China, such as the comparison between Western Valentine’s Day and Chinese Valentine’s Day, the difference between western food culture and Chinese food culture, and the idea of

English teaching in higher vocational colleges should follow the principle of localization, take Chinese culture as the carrier, and build English classrooms with Chinese characteristics. However, it should be noted that China English is not Chinglish, and the pronunciation and structure of English should be studied according to English standards.
(2) Construct a rich and perfect curriculum ideological and political resource library
The reform of English curriculum ideological and political education in higher vocational colleges needs to make good use of the advantages brought by information technology, make English curriculum ideological and political education more modern, attract students’ attention and arouse their learning enthusiasm. English teachers in higher vocational colleges need to make good use of online
mixed teaching mode, learn professional operation skills, and make short and concise short videos of English courses, so that students can learn independently on the platform. At the same time, ideological and political micro-courses in English courses need to be classified reasonably, such as the types of traditional virtues of the Chinese nation; Types of Chinese intangible cultural heritage; Types of Chinese outstanding historical figures; Chinese traditional festival types and so on. In the daily teaching process, teachers should often play some English video materials about Chinese culture to students, build a rich and perfect curriculum ideological and political resources database, and on the basis of improving students’ English listening and speaking ability, strengthen students’ understanding of Chinese culture and cultivate students’ good patriotism.
(3) Constructing a professional team of English teachers of ideological and political courses
The reform of ideological and political education in English classroom is focused on the dominant force, and the leader of ideological and political education in English classroom is the English teacher of the new era. English teachers need to integrate ideological and political education with higher vocational English in the process of teaching practice, introduce ideological and political education to students while imparting English knowledge and cultivating students’ skills, and help students achieve all-round development [4]. In order to promote the efficient integration of ideological and political educa
tion and English courses, we must innovate the teaching model and build a brand-new education team. Higher vocational colleges need to strengthen Chinese culture education and training for English teachers, improve teachers’ sense of identity with Chinese culture, promote teachers’ education and teaching level, and guide teachers to play a leading role. While imparting professional knowledge to students, they should integrate the goal of “cultivating people by virtue” into their teaching tasks, so as to help

students correctly understand English courses and western culture, keep in mind the important mission of inheriting and developing Chinese traditional culture, and create higher vocational English classrooms with new era characteristics and integrating curriculum ideological and political elements.
4. Conclusion
To sum up, the main task of public English class in higher vocational colleges at this stage is to integrate the ideological and political elements of the curriculum well. English teachers in higher vocati
onal colleges must be clear about English teaching tasks in the new period and master the profound connotation of curriculum ideological and political education. At present, students in higher vocational English teaching have serious ideological and political problems. Therefore, teachers must reform the teaching mode and teaching emphasis, pay attention to the dual penetration and coordinated development of Chinese and Western cultures, make good use of information technology, build an intelligent ideological and political resource base for English courses, and improve the comprehensiveness and pertinence of teaching. At the same time, higher vocational colleges should actively introduce professional teachers, build a contingent of English teachers for ideological and political education, and reserve strength for good ideological and political education.
